Kyle Dudley had a tumultuous beginning to the 2016 season which included poor performances, crashes and even a disqualification. However on Independence Day weekend he broke from the bad luck that had held him out of victory lane to win three races over the course of two days.
Those three victories were enough for Franklin County Speedway promoter Langley Austin to place a bounty on his head. When the Late Models return to Franklin County Speedway on Sunday July 17th for the “Summer Heat Wave”, Dudley will be chased by a handful of “Bounty Hunters” looking to keep him out of victory lane and take home the tracks cash bounty.
“This will be the second bounty placed on a Late Model Stock Car driver this season,” said promoter Langley Austin. “Kyle was on his game over the July 4th weekend winning all three races for the Late Models. When he’s on his game on this track he’s hard to beat, so I’m placing a bounty of at least $500 and up to $2,000 for anyone to come and beat him next weekend.”
The “Escalating Bounty” will pay a guaranteed $500 to anyone who can beat Dudley on the track. The bounty will follow traditional bounty rules and Dudley has to be competitive, must finish on the lead lap and not be wrecked or teamed up on for the bounty to be paid.
Dennis Holdren came in and took the bounty earlier this season that was placed on three-time race winner Devin Steele. Holdren will almost certainly be looking to come get some more cash and keep his reign as the “Bounty Hunter” next weekend.
“Kyle is on a roll right now but when these other guys come in looking to dethrone him it’s going to be a battle,” continued Austin. “Dennis Holdren has won every race he’s run at Franklin County Speedway under my management. He’s three for three, so he’ll be a strong contender.”
Another driver expected to be a contender for the bounty money will be Ross “BooBoo” Dalton who was among the fastest competitors during the last bounty race but fell victim to a weight violation after qualifying and then cut a tire in the race before returning to finish second as he tracked Holdren down. Another out of town challenger could be Amber Lynn who made her first start last weekend and finished second to Dudley on Sunday.
Mike Looney also put up a strong battle for the bounty last time out but fell short finishing fourth. Ricky Gillespie came home third in the bounty race and has been among the fastest cars all season. Devin Steele who the bounty was on last time is expected to challenge to beat Dudley for the bounty money this time as well as a host of other drivers hungry for their first win of the season.
The bounty money will be on the line on Sunday July 17th at 5pm and depending on car count could grow as high as $2,000. The last bounty race featured a 14-car starting field and this race could have an even larger car count. Adult tickets are $10, youths (5-12) are $5 and under five get in free. This will be a race not to miss.
