Dylan Bigley came into Saturday night at Desoto Speedway in Bradenton, Florida Saturday night with big dreams.
He came in wanting a good finish. He got that Saturday night finishing second to Joe Boyd in the Super Late Model 100 lap feature. Bigley by finishing second won the 2015 Desoto Super late Model Championship but it was not easy.
Joe Boyd grabbed the lead from his third starting position when the front row of Richie Anderson and Tyler Scofield came together.
Boyd checked out on the field. Three cars of Dylan Bigley, Mike Franklin and Michael Atwell battled back and forth for the second spot. Until lap 17 when Atwell tapped Franklin spinning him. Atwell was sent to the rear of the field following the incident.
Boyd continued to lead. Bigley and DJ Hoelzle got by Franklin to grab second and third. Boyd continued his torrid pace. Until the caution flew on lap 42 for a spin.
On the restart, Michael Atwell who was battling Bigley for the Championship crashed hard into the third turn wall bringing out the red flag for a lengthy cleanup.
Joe Boyd held off several attempts by Bigley on restarts to hold on the victory which was his first in over a year at Desoto Speedway.
Joe Boyd said in victory lane, “Dylan and I bumped a little nothing out of the ordinary. I think we can win another one of these triple crown races if we work on our late race set-up.”
By finishing second in his father’s car (Billy Bigley Jr) after his car suffered a mechanical issue during practice wrapped up the points battle with no victories for the year but a pile of top fives.
“It’s just amazing. I can’t put this into words what this means. My grandfather passed away earlier this year and without him I would not be doing this”, Dylan Bigley said. “I want to thank family friends and everyone that has given me advice along the way.”
DJ Hoelzle, Danny Foster and Ashley Rogero rounded out the top five. Sixth through tenth went to Tyler Scofield, Richie Anderson, Stephan Weaver, Chad Chastain and Billy Bigley.
Danny Caylor took the Street Stock feature. In bombers it was Kenny Gibson. Mini Stock action saw Ronnie Robinson pull into victory lane.
