CALLAWAY, VA :: Kyle Dudley picked up his third win of the season at Franklin County Speedway on Saturday night in dominating fashion while Johnny Cash secured the 4-Crown Challenge Championship.
Dudley picked up the lead on the ninth lap of the race after racing side-by-side with Rusty Gaspard. From there, he held off a charge from Johnny Cash. Cash was able to get near Dudley but couldn’t get close enough to make a pass.
“The track was getting wet at the end,” Dudley said. “Johnny Cash gave me all I wanted. I didn’t want any more. I could get a little bit away from him but not much. I hit my marks just perfect. He ran me hard but clean and I appreciate it. They’re good. They’re getting better and better every week. They’re fast now. I hope they don’t get any faster. The track, the last few laps, was treacherous. That was fun.”
Dudley’s win was the second in the “4-Crown Challenge”. Ryan Glenski and Brian Pembleton, who did not race on Saturday, won the other two races. However, the “4-Crown Challenge” Championship went to Johnny Cash.
“The whole Dudley bunch, they’re a class act,” Cash said. “I enjoy running with them. They do a great job. It’s fun to race with them. They know what they need to do. All my friends and family who help, they’re the ones who did it. I just turn the steering wheel. I can’t wait to get back to victory lane. It wasn’t worth causing a wreck. I put a bumper to Dudley a couple times but we just want to get it right, run clean and run fair so you don’t get your car torn up. That’s what makes it fun.”
Wesley Thomason finished third with Rusty Gaspard, Josh Leedy and Vincent Campbell rounding out the field. The race saw only one caution and the lone lead change came when Dudley passed Gaspard. The race was scheduled to be 50 laps but was cut short due to rain. The checkered flag waved on the 46th lap of the race.
