SURFSIDE BEACH, SC :: Brain Vause is planning on having twice as much fun for this year’s Myrtle Beach 400 as he doubles up to run the Southeast Limited Late Model Series (SELLM) race on Sunday as well as the Late Model Stock Car race the following week.

Vause, 25, has been racing for four seasons and actually got his start running in Late Models.  It’s his car he’ll be racing in Sunday’s 100-lap SELLM race.

“We’re running our personal car this weekend and next weekend, he’s running Dean Weaver.  He used to own a Late Model that ran back at the Beach five or six years ago.  He’s got two cars sitting in the stable and wanted to run one so he gave me a call.  We’re going to team up for this Late Model race.”

Vause has high hopes for this Sunday’s SELLM race.  He feels like he has a good car and as good a chance at anyone at scoring the win.

“This weekend, I think we’ve got a pretty good shot.  A lot of those guys aren’t as experienced as Late Model guys so I think we’ve got an upper hand in terms of tire conservation and being there at the end.  This is my third time running this race.  First two times, we had one of the fastest cars if not the fastest but fell victim to wreck the first time as well as two years ago.”

Vause knows survival is the name of the game in the 200-lap Late Model Stock Car race in the Myrtle Beach 400.

“We hope to do great.  This will be my first time in the car.  I’m just hoping we do well.  I’ve just got to get the kinks worked out more than anything.  This car hasn’t been run in more than six years.  This will be my second time in that race.  We ran it last year.  We missed the setup last year.  We were all over the place in the first half.  It was awful.  We made some changes in the second half. I had to make one lap up the hard way, so I went on the outside and passed teh whole field, got in position for the lucky dog, just never could catch a caution.  It ran green flag until the last 10 laps.”

Vause scored one win at Myrtle Beach Speedway in 2012.  Before going into racing, he was a spotter and a crew member before that for Tommy Byrd’s team.
