Just weeks removed from a runner-up finish in the Pro Late Model Rattler 125 in Alabama, Mason Diaz is ready to race at two different tracks in two different disciplines this upcoming weekend.
On Friday night, Diaz will be back in a Legends car for the first time since the Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park last November as he teams up with Dillon Spain to compete at Southside Speedway in Midlothian, Virginia. Then, on Saturday, Diaz will compete at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway in Hampton, Virginia as he logs laps to prepare for the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown.
“Friday is a complete day for fun,” Diaz said. “I haven’t been in a Legend in a while and I can’t wait. Legends will always be fun to drive, just hop in and drive. Can’t thank Dillon Spain Motorsports for all the hard work getting the car ready from the Classic. Look forward to a good weekend.”
After he has fun on Friday, the work begins for the 17-year-old from Manassas, Virginia. The main mission at Langley Speedway will be to get experience around the mostly flat 0.396-mile track. Diaz has never run in a Late Model Stock Car at Langley and wants to get all the experience he can before the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown commences on Thursday, April 19th.
“Saturday for me is a test session,” Diaz explained. “We are going to test Friday and get the car where we think it needs to be. I believe Mike Darne Racing will give me a great car that will be able to win on Saturday, but Saturday is going to be the kind of race that we try something if we want to. It’s practice for the 19th.”
Diaz’s appearance at Langley Speedway on Saturday will be his first Late Model Stock Car start since last November.
Diaz enters Southside and Langley this weekend already having won a race in a Pro Late Model at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida. Diaz has one win and two top-fives in four starts in 2018.
Mason Diaz is supported by Solid Rock Carriers, The Sign Shop, TSS Motorsports, MAD Motorsports, TSS Services and Prince William Marina.
