Powhatan, VA(March 26, 2012) — While all the talk in Late Model Stock Car racing still surrounds Philip Morris, Jim Dean and the two splitting or not, the racing season is moving on and as Motor Mile Speedway is set to reopen this weekend, one of the drivers from last season will be behind the wheel of another car.
Hunter Devers, who spent the 2011 season at Motor Mile Speedway piloting an FDJ Motorsports entry during his rookie campaign, but when the 2012 season kicks off for the youngster, he’ll find himself in a new ride. Devers has been named as driver of the TORP house car in which he’ll compete all over the region in as he continues to try to grow as a driver and move toward the next level.
Devers, who grabbed a career best finish of third on August 6th last season is looking to improve upon his 2011 successes. Though, he had some great runs toward the end of the season, the young driver struggled mightily at the beginning. This season he’s hoping to get off to a better start and hopes that the team change will help to curve his learning with the guidance of former racer, Craig Oliver.
Oliver, who along with his business partner and wife, Amanda both raced before going into the chassis business and they’re hoping that they can help bring Devers further along.
“We are very excited to have Hunter(Devers) join the TORP driver program for the No. 48 car,” said car owner/crew chief, Craig Oliver. “Hunter’s desire for success and passion for racing matches that of our own. I think we are a good fit.”
Amanda echoed that statement saying, “We are so excited to have Hunter drive the No. 48 Car. I see the drive he has to succeed and that is just what we need here at TORP. Craig and I both feel this season will be a great success, and we have all the confidence to win.”
This move also takes Devers from the multi-car team at FDJ Motorsports to a single-car team with TORP, which will have both advantages and disadvantages, but the young driver, who is a Senior at Fredericksburg Christian High School, is looking forward to the challenges that lay ahead.
