ROUGEMONT, NC :: Chris Denny held off Mike Chambers and Donald Brace to win a thrilling 75 lap late model stock car race at Orange County Speedway. Denny led all the way from the pole , but was constantly hounded throughout the race from both Chambers and Brace. It was the second victory in a row for Denny.
“We don’t have any sponsors on the car, but I get a lot of help from my brother Kevin and others to make this work,” the popular local driver said from victory lane.
The top three ran under a virtual blanket nearly the entire race with Chambers and Brace swapping second position and putting the pressure on Denny. Chambers finished the race on Denny’s bumper.
Chris Gray garnered his first ever victory in the track’s limited sportsman division after a chaotic ending which saw Chuck Lawson spun from the lead by Brandon Baker and Baker being blackflagged. Gray started second in the 35 lapper and kept himself in position to take advantage of the late race circumstances. Baker had started sixth, but charged his way through the field to challenge polesiitter Lawson before the altercation between the pair in the third turn. A scuffle between members of both teams ensued after the race , but order was restored by track security.
