ROUGEMONT, NC :: Terry Dease edged Craig Moore by inches to win the 75 lap late model stock car race at Orange County Speedway on Saturday night. The Oxford,N.C. veteran won his first race of the 2013 season in the finale of a six race program at the three-eighths mile paved speedplant.
“It felt good up high at the start and I just stayed up there” explained Dease as he dominated much of the race before Moore made his late charge. Tripp Massengill started on the pole, but lost the lead to second starting Dease on the opening lap. Massengill finished third.
Dennis Sargent Jr. charged from third to first late and held on to win an exciting limited late model 35 lapper over Brandon Baker and Jerry Hinesley. The race was marred by a spectacular multicar crash on lap 5 that ultimately eliminated six cars. The red flag was displayed for cleanup. Race officials ruled that the car of Thomas Chappell caused the accident by contact with Daniel Moss. The car of Moss hit the wall head on in turn one and bounced back across the track collecting four other cars in the process. Chappell’s machine was not seriously damaged, but he was parked for the remainder of the race by the officials.
In other races, Richard Hayden edged previously unbeaten Jason Warsing in the 25 lap street stock feature, Junior Chrisco took the 20 lap super mini truck win, Jarret Milam stormed to his second straight pure stock win and Jordan Pickeral collected his second bandolero trophy.
