Myrtle Beach, SC(October 31, 2012) – Myrtle Beach Speedway will host the 20th running of the Myrtle Beach 400 from November 14th through the 18th. The weekend of racing will feature Mini-Stocks, Challenger, South East Limited late Models, and the Whelen NASCAR All-American late model stock cars. The top drivers in the South will be racing in the season ending event at the historic race track known to propel drivers to the next level of stock car racing.
Bob Lutz who took over the ownership of the speedway in April is proud to announce that David Pearson will be the Grand Marshall for the race weekend. The NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee is one of the most well-known of the stock car racers from the 1960’s through the 1986 season. Winner of three Sprint Cup Championships, second on the all-time winners list in NASCAR’s top division, winner in the IROC series, driver for the Wood Brothers, Ray Fox, Holman-Moody, Hoss Ellington, Cotton Owens and others, David Pearson is considered by many and the best driver ever based on the number of his starts versus his wins over his career. Pearson was nicknamed the “Silver Fox” for his cunning and mental strategy on the track that allowed Pearson to save his equipment and win races, as only he could do.
“We are proud to have David, one of the greats as our guest and Grand Marshall for the weekend,” Lutz said. “Sunday will his day at the track that he has run on and enjoyed victory during his early days of racing.”
David Pearson still acknowledges he started on the short tracks and made it to the top of the racing game. But, the short tracks are where it all began for a man who won at tracks like Daytona, Darlington, Charlotte, Michigan and other superspeedways.
It will be a special weekend as drivers try and etch their names into the records of Myrtle Beach Speedway. Visit www.myrtlebeachspeedway.com for the complete schedule of the Myrtle Beach 400 and the latest news at the speedway.
