Cole Timm stunned Super Late Model racing’s elite to score the victory in the inaugural Championship Auto Racing Series (CARS) Super Late Model Tour race at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday night.
“Just to beat some of the bigger names in the first CARS Tour race means a lot to me,” Timm said in victory lane. “It definitely means a lot to beat those guys. I consider myself just a small time racer. For a little bit, we tried PASS and now we’re trying race by race. Beating these guys means a lot.”
Timm and Kyle Busch Motorsports driver Christopher Bell swapped the lead several times between them in the race. Timm started on the pole but Bell took the lead on the opening lap. Timm took the lead on a lap 73 restart after a wreck took out Zane Smith, Robby Lyons, Brandon Setzer and Chris Fontaine. Timm held on until lap 87.
After the two raced side-by-side in a dead heat for a couple of laps following a lap 91 restart, Timm made the winning pass on lap 93. Bell finished second while Kyle Grissom made a late race pass on Bubba Pollard to finish third. Anderson Bowen rounded out the top-five.
David Garbo Jr finished in sixth while Stephen Nasse, Trevor Noles, hometown hero Clay Jones and Quinn Houff rouned out the top-10.
The victory was Timm’s second career Super Late Model victory. His other victory came in a Pro All Stars Series race at South Boston Speedway last June.
