THORNBURG, VA – Cole Bruce picked up his first win of the year at Dominion Raceway on Saturday, turning around what has been a tumultuous start to his 2019 season.
Bruce, 15, from Fredericksburg, Virginia, started Saturday’s Dominion Racer feature in the third position and quickly raced his way to the front of the field. Bruce made his pass on the fourth lap of the 35 lap feature and held on to score the victory.
After a disappointing start to the season, the win was just what was needed to get the team back on track.
“It helped boost us up,” Bruce said. “It gives us more confidence in ourselves for the rest of the season so we’re not scratching our heads trying to figure out what we need to do to make the car faster. This win means a lot because we’re in a good spot for the rest of the season knowing we have a great car. It just mainly relieves us to get that first win of the season.”
Bruce’s season started with a practice accident at South Boston Speedway in March. After another disappointing result at Dominion Raceway, Bruce picked up his first top-five finish of the year at South Boston Speedway on April 20th.
“Our car program is doing well thanks to After Hours Fabrication,” Bruce said. “Motor program, we’ve got that straightened out. Overall, I think we have a pretty good shot at the Dominion championship this year. I feel confident we’ll come back to South Boston and hopefully get a top-three finish, or, even better, a win.”
After scoring his first win of 2019, Bruce is now setting his sights on picking up more victories at Dominion Raceway. His next race will be on Saturday, May 18th in the 35 lap Dominion Racer feature at the Thornburg, Virginia track.
