DENTON, NC :: Clint King will make his first start of the 2013 season on Thursday night when he competes in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at the Richmond International Raceway. He will be racing with a brand new Hedgecock Racing Enterprises chassis, a car he hadn’t run until testing last Tuesday.
King is confident with the car after testing and feels he should have a shot to challenge in the race.
“We were pretty good Tuesday during testing,” said King. “We switched over and we’re running under the Hedgecock banner now. The first time we had the car on the track as on Tuesday. It ran well. I’m impressed. We had a motor issue during testing but we’ve done a motor swap and shook the car down today. I feel like we should be good. We made some changes.
“Based on the test, we were within the top ten all day long. We were really good on race trim based on where everyone else was. Realistically, there’s no reason we shouldn’t be a top 10 car. We finished 11th last year and the year before and we have a better car and package all around this time. We should be top five or top 10 car and maybe even have a shot for the win.”
It will be King’s first race of the season. If the race goes well, King will make adjustments to the car and take it to Motor Mile Speedway on Saturday night for their season opener.
“We put a new car together,” said King. “We didn’t even decide we’d do any Late Model racing until the end of February or beginning of March. Since then we put this new car together. We’ve been thrashing on it and working on it. We almost didn’t have time to make the test. Depending on how we run we’ll probably run on Motor Mile on Saturday. We may end up running the full Motor Mile schedule. We’ll move around and see where it fits best.”
King has finished 11th both times the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown has been held at the Richmond International Raceway.
The Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown is scheduled to start at 8:30pm EST on Thursday, April 25th. MRN Radio will have live coverage on select affiliates and on MRNRadio.com. RACE22.com will also provide live coverage during the event.
