Pounding Mill, VA(January 1, 2013) – Adam Long had a strong season in 2012, picking up his first career win, winning three races at Kingsport Speedway, winning the “King of the Concrete Jungle” crown and finishing in the top-ten at Martinsville Speedway. Long had 10 top-five finishes on the season.

Entering the 2012 season, not many people talked about Adam Long as a serious threat. However, performances at Kingsport, Martinsville and Motor Mile put the racing world on notice that Long is going to be a serious contender in 2013. Long capped his season with a 10th place finish at Martinsville, driving his way through the field from the 29th starting position in the main event.

“The 2012 season was awesome,” Long said. “These guys put a lot of hard work in for this season to be a success.”

Long scored his first career victory on June 8th at Kingsport Speedway in any type of racecar.

“Oh man, it’s just like a big weight lifted off my shoulders,” Long said when he scored that victory. “I felt like I had a big fat monkey on my back and I finally got it off. Maybe I can walk straight now.”

Long picked up his other two victories on August 17th when he was crowned “King of the Concrete Jungle” at Kingsport Speedway. Long said it was his biggest career accomplishment to date.

“We didn’t have the best car that night,” Long said about winning the ‘King of the Concrete Jungle’ title. “Luck was on our side and, you know, I’d rather be lucky than good. The leader of the race had it in the bag and was ahead by several car-lengths but had some sort of issue in the second race which allowed us to win. These guys worked hard and it was the best car we’d ever had at Kingsport, but having luck on our side helped a lot.”

Another highlight for Long was a 10th place finish at Martinsville.

“We started deep in the field but we were able to get up to 10th place. This says a lot for our team. These guys put a lot of work in to the car and we steadily improved through the weekend. They made a change Saturday that worked perfectly. We caught some lucky breaks today. Starting mid field, we could’ve been caught up in any number of accidents, but that didn’t happen. We just need to work on qualifying better so we can have a better starting spot next year and contend for the win.

“We passed the guy who finished third late in the race. Those late restarts cost us some positions, but I think if things had fell in place we would have had a top five finish. I guess I’ll take 10th and be happy, but I’m really not as happy as I should be.”

With the 2012 season in the mirror, Long is looking ahead to 2013, hoping to build off a breakout season.

“We know we have the car to win races now, so we’ve just got to build on that momentum,” Long said. “I know we have the team to do the job. Hopefully we can have a strong start to the season and get momentum on our side early on. If we do that, I think we’re in good shape to win a lot of races and hopefully put ourselves in contention for the championship at Kingsport.”

Long’s season will start at Kingsport Speedway in Kingsport, TN on March 9, 2013. He’ll be competing for the championship on the 3/8 mile concrete oval and is looking to get the season started off the same way he finished up last season, in victory lane.
