Oklahoma City, OK(May 31, 2012) — As he enters his third UARA-STARS Series race of the 2012 season, Trey Marcham is hoping that he can shed the bad luck that has plauged his first two starts and get a solid finish.

Marcham, who is a rookie in the UARA-STARS Series, a Late Model Stock Car touring series in the Southeast region of the United States, makes the trek to the east coast from his Oklahoma City, OK home. The young driver, who turns 21 on Saturday, June 2nd, is hoping that he can make the most of his first outing on the gritty, tough Williamston, SC track.

“We just need to have a little luck,” said Marcham. “We have had good cars for both the races we’ve run this season at Hickory(NC) and Kingsport(TN), but we don’t have the finishes to show for it.”

The task for Marcham will be to keep his nose clean, but he hasn’t been in a wreck of his own doing all season, but rather getting turned around from behind or caught up in someone else’s mess. He got caught up in a wreck in the season opener at Hickory Motor Speedway in the season opener, but rallied back to finish 12th, on the lead lap.

After skipping the second and third race of the season at Dillon Motor Speedway and Rockingham Speedway, he returned at Kingsport Speedway, but again found himself a victim of circumstance. While racing inside the top 15 just past the halfway point, another racer hit him from behind and turned the young driver around. He would rally back once again and again he finished 12th.

With a month long break since the Kingsport race, the UARA-STARS Series returns to the track at Anderson Motor Speedway, a 3/8 mile oval. Though, this weekend marks the first time that Marcham will have competed on the tough South Carolina track, he’s already shown some speed in testing over the last week.

Marcham tested on the track early last week to get a feel for the track and again Thursday, May 31st he participated in an open test conducted by the series. In this test with 23 other cars taking to the track, he was among the top ten fastest, placing 8th with a lap time of 15.923. Marcham is hoping that his speed today can translate to racing tomorrow night.

“We were really good all day in practice,” continued Marcham. “We’ve got a really good car,, it’s really consistent, this could be the weekend that we can turn our luck around.”

A Senior in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma, Marcham, who is a six-time track champion at I-44 Speedway in Newcastle, OK in sprint cars on dirt is trying to continue a transition to asphalt racing. His dirt racing success has proven that he can get the job done behind the wheel and he’s hoping that he can showcase that on asphalt as well.
