Pounding Mill, VA(April 16, 2012) — One week after posting his best career finish at Kingsport Speedway in Kingsport, TN, Adam Long and his Adam Long Racing team return to Motor Mile Speedway looking for their first career win, but what they got was a fifth place finish and thoughts of what could have been.

Long qualified fourth, his best career qualifying effort on the Dublin, VA track and from the drop of the green flag looked to be one of the top competitors in the 150-lap race. Soon he found himself in second position and looking to challenge the leader as he was seeking his first career win. As the laps clicked off, Long got his chance to challenge for the lead on a restart.

Lining up along side the leader on a double-file restart, Long pushed his car too hard and found himself up the track and dropped back through the field. Long would finish fifth, but couldn’t help but wonder what might have been.

“I messed up,” said Long following the 150-lap race. “We lined up alongside of Mike(Looney, the eventual winner) and I just pushed the car harder than I should have there after that restart. I got my car up there in the marbles and just couldn’t stay there beside of him for the lead. Fifth might be a good finish, but I know that we had a chance at a win today.”

Long knows probably better than anyone how hard it is to win one of these NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Late Model Stock Car division races at Motor Mile Speedway and he feels like he gave one away on Saturday.

“I gave that race away. Plain and simple, we had a car good enough to win the race and I let my team down. No one knows how hard this team has worked to try and win a race and we could have won this one.”

Long’s team led by crew chief, Marc Fryar was disappointed with the fifth place finish, but Long admits it feels good to be running up front every week and contending for wins.

“The way things went last year a top five would have been great, so to be disappointed with a fifth place finish is a good sign. Marc(Fryar) and the rest of my guys have this car rolling and we’re going to get a win soon. It feels good to have a car capable of winning every week, now we’ve just got to get this monkey off our back and win one these things.”

Long will have another chance to get his car to victory lane at Motor Mile Speedway, but he’ll have a week off to think about what went wrong. Long and the rest of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series drivers will return to Motor Mile on April 28th for another 150-lap race.

“I hate we have a week off, I’m ready to run another race right now,” continued Long. “Me and my guys are pumped up, we know we’re close to getting that first win and I’d love to do it at Motor Mile on the (April)28th.”
