Denton, NC(September 4, 2012) — Clint King hadn’t spent much time behind the wheel of one of his family owned Late Model Stock Cars this season, but on Friday night he put in twin third place finishes at Ace Speedway.

Altamahaw, NC was the site of King’s return to the drivers seat of his Late Model on Friday night, August 31st as he and the rest of the ASA Late Model field readied for Twin 50-lap feature races. King had only competed in one Late Model race all season in the NASCAR sanctioned, Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, VA.

King would set the bar high right from the start of practice on Friday evening as he posted times that put him in the top five of the strong field and it continued over to qualifying where he posted the second fastest time. With his car performing strong in practice and qualifying, King and his team had a lot of confidence heading into the first of the the two 50-lap races.

When the green flag dropped, King stayed strong up front, mixing it up in the top three the entire race and never falling back far from the leaders. King’s car would continue to get tighter as the race went on, but despite that, the young driver put himself in position to finish second on the final restart. With just a couple laps to go, King was running second when the third place car door slammed him and took the spot away, but King would be happy to settle for third.

“That’s a pretty good run for us the first time out with this car,” said King after the first race. “We knew coming over here to Ace was going to be tough, there’s a lot of good cars and guys here who have a lot more laps around this track than we do. All in all, I think we showed that we’ve got our program headed in the right direction and I think we’ve honestly got something to work with.”

The second race of the night also went off without a hitch for King, who looked early on as if he could compete with the leader for the win. King would eventually settle in to finish third again, but once again showed that the car was strong and just needed a few adjustments to be a contender for the win.

“This car was better than me or any of my guys anticipated it being. We knew that we had to come out here and run strong in our first outing back in the Late Model after a successful season in the ARCA Series. However, I think we proved tonight that with a little bit or work, we can compete for wins and not just be happy to finish third.”

King will take this next weekend off as he gets ready to compete in his first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Late Model Stock Car race at Motor Mile Speedway on September 15th. It is the final race of the season for the Radford, VA track and with twins on the schedule, King is hoping that he can have a strong showing at a track he’s only tested at.

“We’ve taken the Venturini Motorsports ARCA car up to Motor Mile a couple of times to test,” commented King. “I really like the track, I have wanted to race there for a few years now and I’m glad we’ll finally have a chance to do that in a couple weeks. I’m interested to see how we stack up on that track with all the big names in Late Model racing that compete there every week.”

In addition to getting back on the track with his Late Model program, Clint King has also launched an all new website at http://www.driverClintKing.com/.
