Knoxville, TN(October 22, 2012) — After missing the field for the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway last October, Chad Finchum redeemed himself in his first start on the half mile paperclip.

Chad Finchum qualified for the feature race in the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway by virtue of a seventh place finish in his heat race, but an accident knocked him out of the top-15 and a broken track bar ended his day.

Finchum had come to Martinsville after failing to transfer in to the main event last season. It was the first time Finchum had ever failed to qualify for a race in his career.

“We were really excited to make this race,” Finchum said. “After missing the race last year, we knew we had to be on our game. The crew did a great job and gave me a great car.”

Finchum, who started 27th had raced his way up to the 13th position before getting taken out by another competitor. He would end the day right back where he started in the 27th position, but as it happens often in racing the results didn’t show the effort put in.

“It’s just unfortunate that circumstances took us out of this race. We had a great car. We started 27th and worked our way up to 13th before being involved in an accident.”

Finchum was running in 14th when he was involved in a multi-car accident on lap 94. The accident relegated Finchum to 30th. From there, he worked his way up to 26th before the track bar broke, ending his day. Finchum finished 27th.

“We’ll come back next year,” Finchum said. “We had a good car, good crew and we have the potential to contend for a win here. Luck just didn’t work in our favor today.”
