Oak Hill, WV(August 2, 2012) — Sammy Jasper’s day at Caraway Speedway last weekend wasn’t what he was looking for, but the one thing you learn early as a driver is to put the past behind you and look forward to your next race.
Jasper is ready to do just that as he has his sights set on the second of three UARA-STARS Series races to be held in back to back to back weeks. Concord Speedway will be the site of this weeks race and Jasper, while he doesn’t have much experience on the half mile tri-oval, he knows that his team will have him prepared.
“Concord looks like a fun race track,” said Jasper. “We were hoping to carry a little momentum from Caraway, but the race didn’t play out like we had hoped. We slipped back a little early on and found ourselves in the wrong position when another driver had engine problems. But, Concord we’re hoping will be a different story.”
Jasper’s race at Caraway Speedway last weekend wasn’t a total wash as the young driver posted the 7th fastest time in qualifying, but as he usually does slipped back a little at the start to allow for other guys to use up their equipment. As the laps clicked off, he found himself behind a competitor, who’s engine would blow up and Jasper couldn’t avoid it. He was able to make repairs and stay on track, but 16th place was all he could muster at the finish.
Jasper’s team led by Ed Berrier, a veteran crew chief will have his car back ready to do battle for 150-laps this weekend at Concord Speedway in the City Chevrolet 150. Jasper says he’s looking to get his program back on track after a couple of tough races.
“We started off on a hot streak,” said Jasper. “We were rolling pretty good, got a second place finish and then the wheels seemed to fall off of this thing. We’re working hard on this program though and we know with a little good luck, we’ll be right back in the top five and contending for race wins.”
