ROUGEMONT, NC :: Chris Denny clinched the track championship at Orange County Speedway on Saturday night after scoring the victory in the second of two Late Model features.

Denny’s victory was his third career Late Model Stock Car win and he considers it the biggest win of the season, not just because of the championship implications but also because

“It feels great man,” Denny stated.  “I’m going to tell you, the win Saturday night might even feel better because we’ve had a tough car count this year at Orange County.  There were a lot of good cars there on Saturday night.  To outrun some of those guys, they’re some of the best in the business.  Being a low budget team, it means something to beat those guys.  I was just as proud to outrun the Orange County guys.  It’s just nice to shut some mouths up who have been saying we aren’t beating anybody.”

Denny said much of the credit for the win goes to his brother, Kevin.

“It’s a lot of hard work,” Denny said.  “My brother was the main heart and soul behind it.  He’s my crew-chief.  He builds all the suspension and does all the setup and I drive.  It was more special to him than me because this car was flying, bottom line.  It was hooked up.”

Denny takes extra pride in winning his first championship, being a low budget “weekend warrior” who doesn’t get to work on his car every day and doesn’t test as often as some of his competitors.

“It’s great, it’s awesome,” Denny exclaimed.  “I can’t believe it.  We’re just some weekend warriors.  We have full time jobs.  We have a demanding work schedule and we get in the race shop when we can.  It’s not an everyday thing for us.”

Denny picked up his first career win earlier this season.  With a championship now locked up, he is considering going to Southern National Motorsports Park in a couple weeks to run in the Autumn Classic.  He says his 2014 season plans are still up in the air.
