Mooresville, NC(November 9, 2012) — J.P. Morgan wanted to close the 2012 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series season in victory lane and thanks to a timely caution Saturday night at Orange County Speedway, he was able to do just that.

Morgan, the 2012 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series champion, was running second to race-long leader Stacy Puryear on lap 229 when Allen Purkhiser blew a tire in turns one and two and hit the wall.

While it was bad luck for Purkhiser, it turned out to be good luck for Morgan. On the ensuing restart Morgan used a great run on the outside to overtake Puryear, eventually pulling away to his seventh series victory of the year.

For that bit of great luck and great driving, Morgan has been awarded the Brake of the Race Award presented by Pro-System Brakes. Morgan also earned the T&D Rocker Arms High Finisher Award and product certificates from Brown & Miller and Cool Shirt.

While Puryear failed to win Saturday’s finale at Orange County, he didn’t go home empty handed. His great performance and eventual second-place finish Saturday also earned him four contingency awards.

Puryear received the Lap Leader Award presented by U-Pull, U-Save, the Halfway Leader Award presented by Holley, the Koolmat Koolmove of the Race Award and a product certificate from Cool Shirt.

Other contingency award winners from Saturday’s finale included Dalton Hopkins (Cool Under Pressure Award presented by FLUIDYNE), Joey Jones (Staubli Highest Finisher Award) and Tyler Young (product certificates from Cool Shirt and Brown & Miller).

Final Championship Update: J.P. Morgan entered The Championship 250 at Orange County Speedway knowing he only needed to start the race in order to win the championship.

Second place in the standings, however, was far from determined. Allen Purkhiser entered the race with a slim lead over Dalton Hopkins and Tyler Young. In the end, Purkhiser and Young ended the season tied for second behind Morgan.

Hopkins struggled mightily Saturday at Orange County, but scored just enough points to beat fellow rookie Nathan Russell for fourth in the standings. In addition, Hopkins also earned the 2012 Rev-Oil Pro Cup Series Rookie of the Year Award over Russell.

Stacy Puryear was sixth in the final standings, followed by Rusty Skewes, Joey Jones, Caleb Holman and Gus Dean. Complete standings are available at www.revoilprocup.com.
