When racing resumes at Carteret County Speedway on Sunday, May 29th, big money will be on the line across every division competing in the Inaugural Interstate Batteries (of Coastal Plains) Memorial Classic.
The Interstate Batteries Memorial Classic, which was moved to Sunday, May 29th in the best interest of the competitors, will feature a rich purse in every division. The headline race for the Memorial Classic will be a 75 lap, $2,500-to-win Late Model race. That race, combined with a $1,000-to-win Mini-Stock race, a $1,000-to-win Street Stock race, a $1,000-to-win Legends race and a $500-to-win U-CAR race should attract racers from all over the region.
“I’m back and I’m bringing the big money for Memorial Day,” Carteret County Speedway owner Bobby Watson said. “I want to put on a special event for racers and fans on Memorial Day and I want this to be one of the biggest events of the year.”

The move from Saturday to Sunday also makes Carteret County Speedway the only asphalt short track in North Carolina to be in action on May 29th and is the second holiday weekend event to be held at Carteret County Speedway.
Carteret County Speedway just held the season opening race back on Saturday, April 30th with packed grandstands and breathtaking racing action.
“If racers want to race in front of thousands of fans, Carteret County Speedway is the place to come race,” Watson remarked. “We’ve had great crowds for all our events which provides a lot of exposure for our racers.”
Along with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini-Stocks, U-CARs and Legends, the Bandoleros will also be in action and the Southern Ground Pounders Vintage Racing Club will make a visit to the Crystal Coast. The Southern Ground Pounders feature Vintage Sportsman and Vintage Modified racecars which bring a blast from the past to fans and racers who visit Carteret County Speedway, a track that itself is throwback.
An open practice session will be held on Saturday evening, followed by live entertainment at the Moonshiner’z restaurant in the infield of the speedway. Activities will get underway on Sunday, May 28th, at 3pm with practice. Qualifying will be held at 5:30pm and the green flag will fly at 7pm.
The race itself doesn’t just boast healthy payouts but also low costs to drivers. Carteret County Speedway has the lowest tire prices in the region for Late Model tires, with American Racer sticker tires on sale for $75.00 and American Racer scuffs available for $35.00. Pit passes cost only $25.00 to competitors.
