With three races remaining on the inaugural CARS Tour 2015 season schedule the intensity of the championship hunt has ramped up for a select few. Those in the hunt, plus many others just going for the win, must now turn their attention to what could easily be perceived as the fastest and most difficult track on the circuit, Concord Speedway. The triangle shaped half mile track has developed a “love it” or “hate it” reputation over the years amongst drivers. No matter the feelings toward the “Concord Triangle”, the ability to stay focused on racing the track itself usually leads to success. With several repeat winners in both the Late Model Stock and Super Late Model divisions this year; don’t be surprised at all to see a pair of first time season winners at the unique Concord track when the final checkered flag waives on the Lead 2 Real Estate Group 200 Saturday night,

QUOTES:

Hometown but No Home Track Feeling:

Kyle Grissom has consistently been in the mix to win races on each and every stop along the CARS Tour schedule this season. He along with fellow championship contender Cole Timm are the only two drivers to have finished in the top five in five of the seven events thus far. Those results have put Grissom second in the championship standings, ten markers behind Timm, headed into Concord this weekend, a track right in Grissom’s backyard. However; despite the track being in his hometown the short track ace doesn’t get that “home track” feeling that most get when racing close to home.

“I don’t really consider Concord a home track at all. I’ve only raced there five times I think. I have won a PASS race there, but I’ve also destroyed a car there too so I have mixed feelings about the place. You always hear a lot of talk about it because it’s unlike any track around because of the dogleg in the back stretch. The place is bigger, faster, and gives you the feeling like riding a roller coaster in your stomach. You go up and down each and every lap and really have to work hard as a driver behind the steering wheel there. Usually if you can load your car up in one piece at the end of the night you’ve done pretty well at Concord.” #31 Kyle Grissom – Harrisons Workwear Chevrolet Super Late Model

First Time Flying Around Concord:

While most of the CARS Tour competitors have visited the tricky Concord Speedway triangle at least once in their career, many of the tour regulars on the Late Model Stock side of things have never seen the place. One of those drivers is Chris Hudspeth, who has some solid runs this season, but bad luck has kept the Ronda, NC native out of victory lane thus far. Heading into a track he has never raced at but heard a lot about, has him approaching the weekend with an open mind and hopes that something new is just what he needs to change things around for his TE-Connectivity race team.

“I’ve never raced at Concord but I keep hearing it will be one of the fastest I’ll ever race at. There has been a couple of tracks this season I’ve never been to so I’m approaching Concord the same way I did with those, and that’s with a total open mind and no expectations out of the track itself. We’ve been getting our car better each race this season and I think lately with the good runs it’s showed. We just have to get the finishes now. I’ve been pretty blessed this season to be able to compete full-time on the CARS Tour thanks to my sponsor TE-Connectivity. This is a tough series with lots of tough competition, but we are staying positive and looking forward to getting some things going our way. Hopefully it all starts at Concord this weekend.” – #28 Chris Hudspeth – TE Connectivity Ford Late Model Stock Car
