On a full moon Saturday night, Bradley McCaskill survived a chaotic Championship Auto Racing Series (CARS) Late Model Stock Tour race at Concord Speedway, the eighth of ten rounds in the series.

“I don’t know if there’s a maximum for number of prayers in a day, but we used them all up today,” said a jubilant and emotional Bradley McCaskill in victory lane. “This is a complete family effort. My mom and dad have been there for me since day one.”

McCaskill applied the chrome horn to Myatt Snider with two laps to go, allowing him to take the victory in the 100-lap Late Model Stock portion of the Lead 2 Real Estate Group 200.

“Myatt’s an awesome guy,” Bradley McCaskill said. “I wanted to win really bad. I was going to do whatever it took.”

Snider held off Tommy Lemons, Jr. to finish in second, and had no issue with McCaskill’s maneuver to win the race.

“Me and Bradley battled it out really hard,” Snider said. “Me and him talked about it, and we both agreed that we would have done the same thing if either of us were in each other’s shoes, because it’s for a win.”

Snider upset the other member of the McCaskill family, fellow championship contender Deac McCaskill, when they collided with seven laps remaining. Deac McCaskill was looking to Myatt Snider’s inside entering the first turn when the two drivers made contact, sending McCaskill spinning while Snider held the lead.

Deac McCaskill was none too pleased with Snider’s role in the accident, believing Snider cut him off on multiple occasions in the closing laps.

“I got under him one time in the dogleg and he cut me off,” Deac McCaskill said.  “It’s way too dangerous to be screwing around over there. Then we came off four and I was all the way up to his door and he just turned. I thought we both were going to wreck.”

“Spoiled rotten kid, he gets in his Cadillac and goes home,” McCaskill continued. “He ain’t gotta work on these cars. I’m sick of it.”

McCaskill and Snider would discuss the accident privately following the completion of the Super Late Model portion of the evening. After the discussion, Snider acknowledged his role in the incident.

“I guess I thought I was a little bit further ahead than I was. I thought I was just barely in front of him. Maybe he had a bumper next to mine. I tried to take the wide line, and it just didn’t end up working out.”

“That’s not how I want to race,” Snider continued. “Deac’s guys work hard, my guys work hard too. This isn’t cheap. We both agreed we don’t want to race like this.”

Lemons battled from a 14th starting spot to claim his podium finish, and was right in the thick of the final battle as the race ended.

“I’m a little disappointed, but you can’t be too disappointed in third place,” Lemons said. “Our qualifying was worse than what it should have been, but we picked our poison and qualifying was a little bit bad in hopes of having a good car at the end of the race. Missed it just a little bit, and that’s it.”

The start of the race was delayed 20 minutes while a sudden issue with the timing and scoring system cropped up. There was also a lengthy red flag with five laps remaining after a multi-car incident that sidelined Jeff Oakley, Mike Darne, and Chris Hudspeth. Darne had started second, and Oakley was running fifth prior to the crash.

Unofficially, Myatt Snider assumed the points lead over Brayton Haws, who also had an eventful evening. Haws rallied to a sixth place finish after an incident on lap 38 with former Concord Speedway track champion Terry Brooks, Jr.

Clay Rogers, who ran both CARS Tour races this evening, finished fourth in the Late Model Stock field, while Justin Hobgood came home fifth in his CARS Tour debut.
