Asheboro, NC(October 20, 2012) – Garrett Campbell came in to Martinsville hoping for a breakout performance, and he left Saturday afternoon with the fourth fastest time in qualifying which is enough for him to start on the pole in his heat race on Sunday.
Campbell’s car unloaded fast. He clocked the quickest overall time in practice on Saturday afternoon with a 20.260 second lap around the .526 mile oval. He backed that fast lap up with a fourth place qualifying run in Martinsville’s unique qualifying format.
“I was in the third group and I was the fastest car in that group overall,” Campbell said. “Well, McCall’s fast. I thought they were going to take the top ten cars out so we know who’s fast so we don’t have a 20th place car on track during our qualifying run. They said I had the fastest time passing somebody and that might be good in the race.
Campbell can now focus on the race on Sunday. He will not have to worry about having to pass a bunch of cars in the heat race and can focus on setting his pace and getting prepared for the feature. At the end of the day, Campbell hopes he is going home with a grandfather clock and a $25,000 check.
The green flag will fly for the heat races on Sunday morning at 12pm EST. RACE22.com will have live lap-by-lap coverage of the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway. For more information on Garrett Campbell check out his website at http://www.GarrettCampbell.com/
