Brody Pope collected an impressive runner-up finish in his first limited late model start with Lee Faulk Racing and Development on Saturday afternoon at Greenville-Pickens Speedway.
Despite qualifying a disappointing seventh for the 75-lap event that was run as part of the Meltdown Race at Greenville-Pickens, the 18-year-old driver refused to let that stop him from putting together an impressive showing.
With only one caution flag slowing the field, Pope meticulously worked his way from his seventh starting position to eventually finish second at the legendary half-mile asphalt oval.
“I started off the day a bit upset about our qualifying effort, but when we turned our attention to the race I forgot all about that,” Pope said. “I took my time working my way through the field. I stayed patient and managed to finish second in my first start in a limited late model, so I couldn’t be happier with how things worked out.”
Lee Faulk Racing and Development’s Michael Faulk was impressed with how quickly Pope was able to adapt to the new race car and even more impressed with his runner-up finish on Saturday afternoon.
“For his first time in a limited late model and his first time at Greenville-Pickens, we are extremely pleased,” Faulk said. “To start where he did and then carefully work his way up to second at the checkered flag was impressive in a lot of ways. He did a great job and we’re looking forward to having him in one of our cars again very soon.”
Perhaps most importantly, Pope was able to gain a lot of experience behind the wheel in his first limited late model start and the runner-up result has him more excited than ever to kick the 2018 season into high gear.
“I was able to learn a lot today and that was the most important thing. Lee Faulk Racing gave me an incredible car and I can’t thank the entire team enough for their hard work,” Pope said. “I’ve also got to thank MPM Marketing and my parents for their support. This weekend makes me even more excited for the next race.”
