WINSTON SALEM, NC :: The Madhouse is in the spotlight once again.  An incident in the Sportsman race at Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday night has attracted national media coverage.  The confrontation began in the closing laps of the second of two Sportsman races after Mike Robertson crashed with assistance from Derek Stoltz in a battle for the runner-up position.

An angry Robertson went to confront Stoltz during the caution.  He reached in to Stoltz’s window.  Stoltz hit the accelerator and took off, dragging Robertson around the track before Robertson let go of Stoltz’s car, rolling on the asphalt.  Video of the incident went viral on YouTube and caught a lot of attention on social media outlets.

After the incident with Robertson, Stoltz went on to win the feature but not without even more controversy in the closing laps when he made contact with Bryant Robertson.  After the race, an army of law enforcement officers and dozens of people congregated in the pits at the quarter-mile track.

Video of the incident made sports highlight reels locally and also got play nationally on ABC’s “Good Morning America”, FOX News Channel’s “FOX & Friends” and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Monday morning.

Bowman Gray Stadium, one of NASCAR racing’s oldest tracks, gained national notoriety in 2010 when The History Channel ran a television series, dubbed “Madhouse”, spotlighting the drivers and the rivalries in Bowman Gray’s Modified division.
