Matt Bowling of Ridgeway, Virginia, won his fifth race of the year in the first of twin 75-lap races for the Late Model Stock Car Division at South Boston Speedway on Saturday.
Bowling, NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national points leader and Late Model points leader at South Boston Speedway, won his second pole award of the year with a time of 15.902 seconds and led all but one of 75 laps in a race that had one caution.
Austin Thaxton of South Boston, Virginia, finished second in the first race, with Bobby McCarty of Summerfield, North Carolina, Peyton Sellers of Danville, Virginia, and Brandon Pierce of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, rounding out the top-five finishers.
Bowling started sixth after a six-car inversion in the second 75-lap race and got caught up in a multi-car pileup on the opening lap, opening the door for a number of drivers, including Oakley, who was fourth after one lap and gradually moved through the field before passing Sellers for the lead on lap 33.
Oakley led the rest of the way in winning the second race by 2.455 seconds over Sellers, with Thaxton, Danny Willis Jr. of Cluster Springs, Virginia, and Pierce rounding out the top-five finishers in a race that had two cautions.
