DILLON, SC :: Dillon Motor Speedway hosted the Black’s Tire 200 on Saturday which saw Clay Jones score the victory in the Late Model feature and Bobby June collect a $500 bounty in the Charger feature.
Heading into the Charger feature on Saturday night, there was a $500 bounty on Michael Obrien who had won the first three events of the season. Obrien started on the pole, but Bobby June from Darlington, South Carolina was able take home the bounty as he captured his first win of the season. Obrien was the runner-up after a hard fought race. Michael Williamson had a great run as he crossed the line in third. Jon Lane finished fourth, and Ben Watford rounded out the top-five after being involved in an early-race accident.
So far this season, Dillon Motor Speedway has had very healthy Late Models fields, and this past weekend was no different. However, the more cars you have on the track, the higher chance of a big accident. On lap 9, Ryan Hall, Jason Clark, Chad Webster, Cody McKenzie and Archie Adams Jr. were involved in a huge accident as the field entered turn one. Once back to green, Greg Peterson and Clay Jones battled it out for the race lead. With only eight laps to go, the caution came out setting the field up for a very intense restart.
In the end, Clay Jones earned his first victory of the season with Greg Peterson who won the first two races of the season finishing right behind him. Randy Benson finished third, followed by pole sitter, Alex Fleming and Justin Hicks.
After overcoming two flat tires, Ricky Locklair Jr. was able to win for the second time this season. Steve Davis and Tommy Poole finished second and third respectively. The top-three drivers were literally rubbing and pushing each other throughout the entire feature. Justin Altman finished fourth, and Neal Anderson rounded out the top-five.
Steve Chauncey led all the laps in this weekend’s Mini Cup Stock feature. Chalin Williamson finished second, followed by Bill Willis, Scott Brooks and Logan Owens.
For the second weekend in a row, Marty Dean took the checkered flag in the Pure Stock Four Cylinder division. Andy Norton finished second, Kayla Dean third, Trey McDowell fourth and Mark Dean finished fifth.
Dillon Motor Speedway will be off this upcoming Saturday night for the NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway but will be back in action on Saturday, May 24 for the Herald Office Systems 200. Late Models will compete, along with the Chargers, Street Stocks, Mini Cup Stocks and Pure Stock Four Cylinders to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend.
