The first practice session for the Late Model Stock Car side of the Championship Auto Racing Series (CARS) is in the books with Austin McDaniel pacing the field at the high-banks of Southern National Motorsports Park.
McDaniel’s 15.613 second lap was only .005 seconds faster than Tyler Ankrum and .008 faster than Todd Gilliland. Brayton Haws, who scored the victory in Southern National Motorsports Park’s biggest Late Model Stock Car race of the season last November, was fourth on the board while Payton Ryan was fifth fastest.
Four-time Southern National champion Deac McCaskill was sixth fastest. Other highlights include Myatt Snider, who was the runner-up in the track’s Late Model standings last year, in 11th and Tommy Lemons, Jr., a former winner at Martinsville and the reigning track champion at Southern National in 12th.
