KINGSPORT, TN :: 2011 and 2012 NASCAR Whelen All American Series South Carolina State Champion Anthony Anders scored his first win at Kingsport Speedway on Friday Night with a dominant effort at the Concrete Jungle. Anders took the lead on lap 15 and held off multiple challenges during multiple restarts to win the race.
“We’ve been fighting for this for a long time and it finally paid off by working hard and keeping with it,” said Anders. “Was that not an awesome racecar we just had? We didn’t qualify too well but we knew in practice we’d be real consistent lap after lap and we just felt like if we could get to the front, we could win this thing. It was just awesome to be out here and finally win a race at Kingsport Speedway.”
Anders started the race in 10th by virtue of his 15.411 lap in qualifying. Despite that qualifying run, Anders managed to take the lead by lap 16, surviving a spree of early race cautions.
“I can’t qualify here,” said Anders. “I don’t know what it is about this racetrack. We’re going to get it down. If we can qualify at the front, we can win a bunch of these races out here.”
After inheriting the lead, Anders never surrendered it. He led 45 laps on the way to his first win of the season and his first career win at Kingsport Speedway. Anders credited his victory to his experience running Hoosier tires at other tracks in South Carolina.
“We love Hoosiers,” said Anders. “Hoosiers have been good to us over the years and Hoosiers have that side grip to them and it really paid to our favor I believe because we’ve worked with them. I don’t know how many of these guys have. We just had an awesome racecar. We had a good one last week, it just didn’t do too well. We learned a lot from last week coming back this week from these Hoosiers. We let them get a little too low. I’m just so happy we finally got a win at Kingsport Speedway.”
Anders will race on Saturday night, March 16th, in the twin 40 lap races at Greenville-Pickens Speedway. It will be Anders’ fourth race of the season. Anders has scored one win and three top five finishes in three starts in 2013.
