GREENVILLE, SC :: In 2012, Anthony Anders was a contender for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Championship for much of the season. He competed in 55 races across three states, but slipped behind at the final tally to place 17th.

However, the veteran driver was able to garnish not only the Myrtle Beach Speedway track championship but the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series South Carolina State Championship as well. 2012 was a great season for Anders. The only that lacked for him in comparison to years past was the number of wins. He picked up five wins in 2012 which paled in comparison to his 15 wins in 2011.

As a new season approaches, Anders is looking to get back to victory lane and often. Anders and his Busy Beaver Tree Service team have revamped their program for the 2013 season. Despite competing in more races than any of the thousands of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competitors in 2012, he’s looking at a full slate once again.

“We raced 55 races last year,” said Anders. ”We just didn’t have the wins to back it up and keep ourselves up top in the points. 17th out of the huge number of guys who competed in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series is nothing to be ashamed of, but we’re looking for more in 2013. We’re going to get off to a quick start again and hopefully find car count everywhere we go and get some wins and we’ll be in a better position at the end of the season.”

Anders will start his 2013 campaign in a non-points event at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL on Monday, February 18th. The race, which has been dubbed as the UNOH Battle at the Beach, will pit the top NASCAR Whelen All-American Series drivers from around the country against one another in a 150-lap race for $15,000 to win. The race will take place on a 4/10 mile temporary course on the SuperStretch of Daytona International Speedway during Speedweeks leading up to the Daytona 500.

Rules for the Late Model portion of the race allow for both straight-rail (Super Late Models) and perimeter (Late Model Stock Cars) with rules designed to equalize the cars. Anders is taking both his straight rail and perimeter cars and is hoping he’ll have the right bullet in the chamber to get himself in position to win the race.

“It’s Daytona,” said Anders. ”Everyone in racing has day dreamed of going and competing there and winning. I’m the same way and I’m just excited to get to be a part of it all. We’ve got two really good cars. We’re taking our Greenville Pickens car (Late Model Stock Car) and our straight rail. We all think the straight rail is going to have an advantage, but we’ve got the other car just in case. We think our Greenville car will be good because the track down there will be very similar to Greenville.”

Anders will then come home to a full slate of racing a few weeks later as the tracks that he plans to compete at the most this season all kick off in successive weeks beginning with Kingsport Speedway in Kingsport, TN on March 9th. From there he’ll compete in the opener at Greenville Pickens Speedway in Easley, SC, which is his home track, and then the following week he’ll compete in a non-points season opener at Myrtle Beach Speedway in Myrtle Beach, SC, where he won the track championship at last season.
