Altamahaw, NC(October 16, 2012) — Ace Speedway has made the decision to reverse yesterday’s decision to disqualify Burt Myers from not only both of the final two races, but also the Championship in the Monster Energy Tour De Madness Series.

Myers’ intake was initially called wrong at the track and verified by a 3rd outside party, but today Ace Speedway General Manager, Brad Allen reversed the decision due to discrepancies in the way the part in question was measured.

Below is a letter from Brad Allen explaining the decision.

“To all concerned,
I write this with the sincerest apologies to all supporters of Ace Speedway and the Monster Energy Tour de Madness.

Through a review of the results from Sunday’s final event, a determination was made that an error in the calculation of points for the modified division occurred. The subsequent inspections and post race procedures revealed no discrepancies other than a misinterpretation of the rules.

My belief, as operator of the track and representative of the series, is that the winner should be determined by results on the race track – in this case, with the total accumulated points and tiebreaking procedures, Burt Myers has been determined the 2012 champion, a reversal of the announcement yesterday. There were several factors involved and the decision was based on performance in the 10 races, minus the 2 worst finishes. Jonathan Brown tied for the overall points lead, the first tiebreaker being wins – 4 to 3, in favor of Myers.

Technical inspections revealed a question regarding the intake, ruled legal by information gathered from a 3rd party. The subsequent revelation today of the erroneous tabulation leaves the track and officials in the difficult and unprecedented position of awarding the championship to another driver after the announcement on the Ace Speedway Hour yesterday afternoon.

I apologize again for the mistakes, promise to learn from them, and hope, with time, that lessons learned will only benefit us. Sometimes doing the right thing is the hardest thing to do, in this case we tried.”
