PURCHASE, NY :: The 31-year-old driver from Norwalk, Conn. has a total of nine wins on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and also won the 2011 NWMT championship.

Race22: Why did you start racing?

Ron Silk: My father was always into racing. Randy LaJoie (two-time NASCAR Busch Series champion) is my godfather, so I was always around it from a young age and always wanted to be a part of it.

R22: What race track do you wish was on the Tour schedule that isn’t?

RS: Richmond. I never got to race there but I used to see the modified races from there on TV and they were awesome. Just looks like a cool, fast place.

R22: Matt Hirschman just gave me the same answer. What is it about Richmond?

RS: Yeah I think it would be a great track for us to race on. Three-quarters of a mile. Big, sweeping (turns). I used to watch the races on TV and they were always awesome from there.

R22: If you had the chance to race any car at any race track around the world, where would it be and why?

RS: I’d want to drive an F1 car at Abu Dhabi probably.

R22: Why Abu Dhabi?

RS: It’s just a nice place. I watch F1 every weekend and it’s just a cool track. And those are the coolest cars in the world.

R22: What do you think of the sound of the new cars?

RS: I don’t like it. I much prefer the V8 sounds. The racing is about the same. But I definitely miss the sound. Even through the TV. I’m sure it’s a lot different in person.

R22: Do you have any superstitions or routines that you do before each race?

RS: I don’t have any superstitions. A lot of the guys on my team are superstitious. They don’t like green and just little things like that. But there’s no routine for me. I don’t think that makes a difference.

R22: What is your usual pre-race meal?

RS: Normally a bag of Doritos and a Gatorade. Just whatever is on the counter in the trailer.

R22: So what’s a typical day like for you away from the race track?

RS: The typical day for me away from the race track, well my family owns a plumbing and heating and business. So I work out in the field every day. I wish I had something more exciting to tell you, but it’s just not that exciting (laughs).

R22: And finally if you were to pull out your iPod, what would be the last song that you listened to?

RS: I don’t know. I listen to a lot of rap. Mostly 90s rap from when I was a kid. But I listen to some of the new stuff. I don’t know.

R22: Who is your favorite?

RS: Probably my favorite was the first couple Nas albums, but after that he kind of fell off.
