“We were excited about this program this year and it was successful for everyone involved,” RACE22.com Webmaster Langley Austin said. “We owe a big thanks to all the drivers, teams, sponsors and fans who participated in making this a success and we hope to expand on this in future years.”
A points system was created for the overall count as points were awarded for both the fan (Facebook) vote and the staff/sponsor vote evenly. The top vote getter on each side received 10 points with a one point separation from second to 10th. Maximum points available would be 20.
Brandon Butler finished 10th in the program with a total of six points. Philip Morris was ninth with seven points, Justin Boston eighth with eight points, Josh Brock seventh with eight points, Austin Thaxton sixth with 10 points,
Ryan Wilson was fifth with 11 points, Kevin Parker fourth with 12 points and Eddie Johnson third with 13 points. Tommy Lemons was the first runner-up with 14 points.
Taking home a total of $2,000 in prizes from Five Star Race Car Bodies, Sticker Shock Graphics, Velocita USA and Bad Fast Media was Frank Deiny, Jr. with 19 points. Deiny scored just one point short of winning both votes after he finished second in the fan vote and first in the staff/sponsor vote.
“It’s pretty cool that one of the teams that came up with a special scheme just for this race won the award,” said Austin. “There were several teams that went all out for Martinsville to win the best appearing award. It’s nice to see those drivers rewarded as well as some who had great paint schemes throughout the year.”
