Client PR Report

Durham, NC(October 19, 2012) — Veteran Late Model Stock Car engine builder, Jeremy Upchurch looks to build on his already impressive resume heading into the seasons biggest race.

Upchurch, who has built engines for some of the biggest names in the Late Model industry over the years has been to victory lane at Martinsville Speedway before with names like Jay Fogleman, Barry Beggarly and B.A. Wilson. This year his budding company, UltraTech Race Development, formerly known as Jeremy Upchurch Inc. is working to regain their place in Late Model racing.

Through associations with former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series crew chief, Lee McCall, noted chassis builder, Greg Marlowe and top drivers such as Nate Monteith and Ronnie Bassett Jr., Upchurch has been able to put his engines back in victory lane. His association with McCall led to a huge win in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at Richmond International Raceway with NASCAR Sprint Cup Series defending champion, Tony Stewart behind the wheel.

He also began dominating Kingsport Speedway with Monteith, then began to help fuel victories for Bassett from the UARA-STARS Series to a four race win weekend at Southern National Motorsports Park to close out their regular season. Upchurch’s engines were in victory lane regularly and as the Late Models head to Martinsville Speedway for the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 he’s carrying a great lineup of drivers into the event.

His lineup this weekend will include a couple of veteran drivers in former NASCAR Nationwide Series driver, RD Smith as well as legendary Late Model Stock Car racer, Greg Marlowe. He’ll also have three young up and coming drivers Ronnie Bassett Jr., Chad Finchum and Ben Rhodes. Bassett comes in with a record in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing having won five times in five starts. All powered by Upchurch’s UltraTech Race Development engines.

Finchum comes in a nine time winner this season at Newport Speedway with a solid second place performance in a recent race at Motor Mile Speedway, but will make his first start with an Upchurch powerplant. Rhodes will compete for Lee McCall in the same car and with the same engine that Tony Stewart took to victory lane at Richmond in April.

While many engine builders have deep lineups of 10-15 drivers attempting to make the race this weekend, Upchurch is hoping that being able to focus on working with selected top tier drivers will give an advantage this weekend.

“I’ve done this for a long time,” said Upchurch. “We’ve done this deal with a lot of customers and had many chances at victory before and we’ve won, but I believe this year we have a better shot at getting a win because we have a lineup of only the best drivers in the business.”

After a great season on the track, Upchurch is hoping to cap it off with another win as an engine builder in the biggest race of the season.

“I’m excited about this weekend. To have Greg Marlowe put his trust in us for his personal car and to have Lee McCall rely on us for his driver development program and with drivers like RD Smith, Ronnie Bassett Jr., Chad Finchum and Ben Rhodes running our stuff gives us a great shot at victory.”

Upchurch could likely add to his resume this weekend, a resume that already includes building engines for not only some of the top Late Model drivers, but NASCAR teams as well. Working in the engine department for Petty Enterprises and side by side with top engine builders such as Ernie Elliott and Joey Arrington.
