Will he race in any non-NASCAR sanctioned events in the weeks leading up to his reinstatement? Is he really going to be able to handle himself appropriately in any racing that he does? Is there any way he can still win a track championship after missing three dates?Pulliam has to be counting his blessings after the ruling by NASCAR that he will be allowed back at any NASCAR arena the first weekend in May. After his self-inflicted demo derby with Phillip Morris at South Boston in mid-October, many experts thought it might be years before Pulliam would return to race NASCAR late model stocks. Now, after weeks of apprehension, a $1000 fine and a bill for the damage to the Morris car, Pulliam can move on, albeit with probation, through the 2012 season. The decision insures that fans will be able to see a renewal of the Pulliam/Morris rivalry in 2012.
SHORT TAKES …
PASS was unable to include Ace Speedway on its initial 2012 schedule due to the uncertainty that surrounded the track up until last week. With Brad Allen signed back up as the GM, look for Ace to be in the mix for at least one race (I would guess the Caraway date on Labor Day weekend is a possibility as that track might opt out to run an event with their Late Models or Modifieds). Ace is one of the few tracks that I would rather see Late Model Stock Cars than Super Late Models, but the PASS events are still worth making the trip.
Bowman-Gray Stadium Sportsman champion, Robbie Brewer is reportedly close to a deal that will put him in a Modified for 2012. Brewer would probably run the Stadium schedule and selected NASCAR Southern Tour events. If the deal goes through, Brewer will bring a much needed shot of new blood into the regional modified scene.
Former South Boston Speedway regular, Ron Fariss and Motor Mile Speedway campaigner, Bob Davis finished 1-2 in the GTA class at a recent SCCA regional event run at Virginia International Raceway. Both drove Chevy Impalas that were former Late Model Stock machines, the GTA class was created by Georgian, Butch Kummer to utilize ex-oval track stockers as road racing only machines.
