Troy, NC(August 27, 2012) — A week ago, Tommy Lemons, Jr. was celebrating just his second win of the season, but on Friday night he doubled his win total for the season with back to back victories at Caraway Speedway.
Lemons has been known as one of the drivers in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, Late Model Stock Car division that isn’t scared to travel to different tracks and compete against the best that the division has to offer. Friday night, he returned to his home track, a place that he hadn’t won a race at since 2006 and the track that gave him his first career Late Model Stock Car victory, Caraway Speedway.
On this night with some of the top Late Model Stock Car drivers in the region converging on the 4/10 mile speedplant including the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Points leader, Lemons showed up with one goal … victory lane. With twin 50-lap races on tap, Lemons lined up for race one in the second position and within three laps would be challenging for the top spot. On lap four Lemons took the Lemons Backhoe Chevrolet Impala to the top spot and never looked back pulling away to nearly a straightaway victory over the solid field.
“It feels good to get a win here at Caraway,” said Lemons following race one. “We hadn’t really had very good luck here in several years and to get this win after finishing second and third here a lot in the last couple of seasons means a lot to me. I grew up coming to this track and winning at your home track is always special.”
Lemons would have to put away his win very quickly as he would be ready to strap in for race number two on the night very shortly and would have to start sixth due to the tracks rule of the most recent winner being handicapped for the start of his next race. Lemons would get a break on the start as one of the top six finishers would have to start in the rear and the outside line would move up moving him to fourth for the green flag.
By lap three in this race, Lemons again put his Lemons Motorsports entry into the top spot and went unchallenged to the finish by nearly a straightaway again for his second win on the night at Caraway and his third win in six days.
“Man, this feels good,” said Lemons from victory lane after his second win on the night. “I knew that we would have a good car tonight, but I never thought we would pull away from the field like that. There’s a lot of good cars and drivers here at Caraway and it feels good to get two wins against this kind of competition.”
