Oak Hill, WV(June 1, 2012) — After getting off to a late start in the 2012 UARA-STARS Series campaign, Sammy Jasper has put together two top five performances with a second place effort at the series most recent race highlighting his two starts thus far this season.
Jasper, who competed in his first season of Late Model Stock Car racing last season at Hickory Motor Speedway, getting a single victory and moving back to Jamie Yelton’s Fat Head Racing for this season to compete in the UARA-STARS Series, the only touring series for Late Model Stock Cars. In his first start of the season on the touring series, he raced into the top five before succumbing to a broken hub at Rockingham Speedway, a one-mile high banked speedway.
Then in his second race of the 2012 season on the UARA-STARS Series tour, he put together a solid 8th place qualifying effort and then rolled to a third place finish at the checkered flag. Later that night the races winner was disqualified and Jasper was credited with a second place finish, his best career finish in the UARA-STARS Series in just his second race. With that kind of success out of the box this season with new crew chief, Ed Berrier, Jasper is looking for good things in round three at Anderson Motor Speedway.
“We have been fast, really fast right out of the box this season,” said Jasper while testing at Anderson Motor Speedway in an open test on Thursday afternoon. “We haven’t been showing that speed today, but we’re not throwing tires at our car like some of these guys have. We feel pretty good about the car now after fighting a loose condition this morning.”
“Ed Berrier is one of the smartest crew chief’s I’ve ever had,” continued Jasper. “My car everywhere we go has been really good, maybe not in practice, but really good for the race. We practiced on tires that would be like ours should be at the end of the race tomorrow night and we weren’t that far off of the guys running stickers.”
With Jasper’s confidence riding high and with him riding a wave of momentum into Anderson Motor Speedway on the heels of his best career UARA-STARS Series finish, this race could be the one where the young West Virginia native breaks out.
“I think we’re close,” concluded Jasper. “I think we’re better than everyone thinks we are and I think with Ed(Berrier) leading this team, we’re going to be able to run up front everywhere we go.”
