11th — Frank Deiny, Jr.(3)
If this was Power Rankings based on Practice, Frank Deiny, Jr. would be the man … unfortunately for him, qualifying was still coming up. In qualifying, after being the fastest car in practice all weekend, Frank nearly put his car on it’s lid when a right rear brake caliper locked up. He’s still out to prove he’s still got it, but so far he’s only shown flashes of brillance and has nothing to show.
10th — Ryan Wilson(n/r)
Ryan Wilson may well have Caraway Speedway figured out with three wins there, but Ace Speedway has been a huge achilles heel for the young driver. After all, it’s a tough track, but once he jumped behind the wheel of one of Rodney Cook’s cars this past weekend, he was on it. Ryan was solid in practice and in qualifying and backed that up with a fifth place finish … not bad for one of his worst tracks.
9th — Garrett Campbell(11)
Garrett exceeded expectations at Ace Speedway this past weekend even though he wasn’t ever a threat to win the race. Garrett has been known as hard-nose racer and that proved perfect at Ace in the FallOut Invitational 150, where he ran solid from the time they unloaded the trailer. At the end after a race long battle with Ryan Wilson, he grabbed the fourth finishing position.
8th — Dean Ward(n/r)
Dean Ward used to be one of the drivers that everyone feared when he came through the gate. And, that didn’t matter whether it was at Ace, South Boston or any other area track and while he hasn’t been behind the wheel full-time in a while, he proved he could still wheel a car. Dean put together a third place finish, but if he had wanted to push the issue and take the chance of wrecking, he might have won the whole thing.
7th — Nick Smith(n/r)
Nick Smith needs to prove nothing for everyone to know he’s one of the best young talents in a Late Model Stock Car right now. In his first trip to Caraway with only seven laps of practice he was impressive racing up into the top five before crashing out and then to come to Ace for the first time and be in the mix from the word go was another impressive feat. Most impressive was holding his own on the outside of Rodney Cook, the track’s winningest driver this season in a ten lap shootout to the finish.
6th — Jason York(9)
We told you Jason York was going to be good … of course it didn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that much as the former track champion returned to Ace Speedway for the first time this season. York was in the mix from the start of practice and ran in the top three in the race until he and Matt McCall had an altercation that took York out of the race. It was just like rideing a bicycle for York at Ace, just like we thought.
5th — Barry Beggarly(8)
Barry Beggarly is probably the best racer ever at Ace Speedway and hopefully that’s not disrespect to the other great racers on the 4/10 mile track. Barry was once again out to prove he could race with anyone at Ace and despite maybe not having the best car, he was on the move before mechanical problems sidelined the Legend and ended his day prematurely.
4th — Jonathan Cash(10)
Jonathan Cash’s second ever visit to Ace and his team, the Long Brothers first ever visit to Ace Speedway was certainly one they’ll never forget. From showing speed early on in practice to dominating the race, leading the most laps and being in a position to win the race in the closing laps. Jonathan proved that he can race on any track and will be in contention to win … no matter what.
3rd — Dustin Rumley(4)
Dustin Rumley proved once again that he is one of the top racers at Ace Speedway, as he stood toe to toe with some of the best racers from Ace’s past and some of the best from around the region. Dustin was expected to be a threat for the pole and after he wasn’t, he showed that he was dialed in for the race and toward the end he was running third, but got caught up in a crash at the end.
2nd — Rodney Cook(2)
Rodney Cook …. Ace Speedway …. Ok, so maybe that’s a no brainer, but truthfully although he raced through the field, he never really was a threat to win the race. However, as it has for most of this season, things worked out for Rodney as he found himself in the right place at the right time and took home the victory. Rodney will tell you he’s had a dream season and what better way for him to cap off that dream, but with the win in the biggest Late Model Stock Car race ever at Ace Speedway.
1st — Matt McCall(1)
Matt McCall’s hot streak continues even though he didn’t win the race as he had one of the best cars in the field from the time he unloaded the car. While I’m not sure he had the best car during the race at Ace Saturday evening, he was certainly up on the wheel giving it much more than the average racer and that’s what got him in the lead late. His day came to an end early however as he and Jonathan Cash got together with ten to go, but his performance in the race will keep him atop the list.
