Columbia, SC(March 2, 2011) — When you think of R.A. Brown, you don’t think of Super Late Model racing. You think of Late Model Stock Car racing in the upstate of South Carolina and North Carolina. Well, that’s about to change in 2011.
Brown and his crew are prepared for a charge at several of the PASS South Super Late Model series races this year. If things fall into place, he might also attempt “The Race” at North Wilkesboro Speedway at the beginning of April, a race boasting a first place purse of $75,000.
“We are going to run four or five PASS South races this year,” said Brown in a recent phone interview.
As far as running “The Race” at Wilkesboro, Brown said they are still up in the air.
“Right now we don’t have the funds to run that race, but we would like to if the right deal came along,” he continued.
It’s hard to believe that Brown is venturing away from the Late Model Stock Car world to run the more powerful Super Late Model this year. But, it’s something he has always wanted to do and the time was right for him to test the waters.
“We built a new Late Model Stock in 2008 and as soon as I finished that, I thought we should have built a Super Late Model,” said Brown “I’ve wanted one for a while so we bought Ron Barfield’s car and Grady Britt is helping us get it dialed in.”
You’ll still find Brown behind the wheel of his red number sixty machine at select Late Model Stock races, but nothing like the last couple of years where he and his team have ventured to Tri-County, Dillon, Greenville-Pickens, Myrtle Beach and Anderson along with running several races on the UARA-STARS tour.
“There are five or six UARA-STARS races we would like to run this year. We will still run some local races at Dillon if the 604 Crate Motor is competitive with the 350 two-barrel carburetor. That should keep me busy throughout the 2011 season.”
With all that is on his plate in 2011, Brown is looking to get back to victory lane in either the Late Model Stock Car or a Super Late Model.
