Josh Berry has been suspended from competing in this weekend’s CARS Tour event at Hickory Motor Speedway according to an email from the series to competitors.

Berry retaliated against Bobby McCarty late in the race for contact while battling for the lead which led to Berry crashing into the outside wall in turn three. Berry was multiple laps down at the time of the retaliation.

The series email reads as follows:

“Following his on-track actions, Josh Berry driver of the #88 JR Motorsports entry, has been suspended for one (1) CARS Toursanctioned event and disqualified from the Ace Speedway event on June 6, 2020, thus losing all earned driver/owner championship points, as well as his earnings.

Berry is suspended under the CARS Tour rulebook which states any driver deemed by CARS Tour officials that his/her actions are detrimental to stock car racing via a flagrant rough driving will receive a minimum penalty of $500, disqualification, suspension, and loss of championship points.

Berry’s suspension will take effect at the upcoming CARS Tour Hickory Motor Speedway event on June 13, 2020.”

Berry has repeatedly owned up to retaliating, saying “enough is enough.”  Confirming the suspension to Race22 on Monday afternoon, Berry said the CARS Tour did what they had to do and he would likely not appeal the suspension.

“There’s no denying what I did Saturday night and I don’t have any regrets over what happened Saturday night,” Berry said.  “At the end of the day, I feel like I had to do what I had to do and the CARS Tour did what they had to do, so I got suspended.”

Berry will return to the CARS Tour once his suspension is up in time for the series’ race at Carteret County Speedway on July 11th – a race he won a year ago.  Berry says he’s not sure if this feud is over but he expects the series will sit both parties down to litigate their differences before the CARS Tour heads to the beach.

“I have a pretty strong feeling that Jack and the CARS Tour are gonna have me and Bobby and maybe our car owners or representatives sit down and talk this out before we get back on track together.  Hopefully, we can go back to racing each other and not wrecking each other.”

Bobby McCarty declined to comment when contacted by Race22.  CARS Tour confirmed Race22’s reporting late Monday evening when contacted.
