Double Your Pleasure … by: Corey Latham ~ [email protected]
Thomasville, NC ~ Things are beginning to rock and roll here at Race22.com, and this weekend we will be bringing you both of the big stories in local racing, the “Frostbite Modified Winter Nationals” at Orange County Speedway, and the UARA test from Bristol Motor Speedway.
Our very own Langley Austin & Kimberly Smith will be live in Bristol to bring you all the happenings of the day, as over 40 cars are expected for the test. Many newcomers will be gracing the track for the first time, as they get ready to put on a show in front of the biggest crowd to ever witness a Late-model event. The UARA race will roll off following the Nationwide Series race on March 21st, and with over 60,0000 spectators expected, the Late-Model guys want to get all the testing in they can in order to make the big race.
I’ll be 5 hours away at the beautiful Orange County Speedway for 125 laps of the most powerful cars on asphalt, the ASA Southern Modified Tour. This is also a tribute and officially the race is called the “Josh Jenkins Memorial 125”. Josh was one of the founders of the old SMART modified tour, and is someone that the modified community in the South will never forget. Qualifying was this evening, and it looks like Ronnie Silk has nabbed the pole over the young superstar Matt Hirschman, with the first Southerner Burt Myers in 5th.
Grandstands open at 10am, with a large pit-party taking place on the frontstrech at 11:30. A modified consolation race will roll off at 1:15 with the features immediately following. Check back Saturday night for a recap from both tracks, but be sure to join me at Orange County for some of the fastest action you’ll ever see.
