Concord, NC ~ About a month ago we delivered the news that Shawn Treadaway had joined Grumpy’s Performance to head up a second team and it took us a while, but we’re now ready to let you know who will be driving the car.
Clarksville, TN native, Clay Greenfield coming off a disastrous 2008 season will join Grumpy’s Performance and the new team led by former Brandon McReynolds crew chief, Shawn Treadaway. Treadaway was let go from his job with McReynolds following a successful rookie campaign with the young driver that saw them win their first ever UARA-STARS race together on one of the toughest tracks the series raced on.
Greenfield, who was highly-competitive during the 2007 season in the UARA-STARS Series being in position to win a couple races, but 2008 saw a whole different outcome for the 24-year old driver. Bad luck took it’s toll on Clay Greenfield Motorsports and saw a driver who many believed would break through, simply fall apart at the seems. Greenfield only collected three top ten finishes and only one of those was a top five and that came in the season opening race at Concord Speedway where he raced his way to a fourth place finish.
Greenfield is looking to rebound from his disappointing season and after the success Treadaway had in 2008 with McReynolds he could just be the key to that success. Treadaway won’t be the only top notch crew chief helping to guide Greenfield’s efforts this season as with Treadaway comes Mike “Grumpy” Cheek. Grumpy in the past has worked with top level NASCAR drivers such as Richard Petty, Buddy Baker, Cale Yarborough, Rick Crawford and Butch Miller as well as many others for a career that expands over 25 years and along with Treadaway will try to right Greenfield’s ship.
In 2008, Grumpy helped lead 15-year old, Darrell Wallace, Jr. to the UARA-STARS Rookie of the Year award on the heels of his first career UARA-STARS victory at Caraway Speedway and a victory in a non-sanctioned event at Franklin County Speedway earlier in the season. Grumpy’s Performance is known for leading young drivers to success and Greenfield should have no less success with Grumpy and Treadaway’s assistance during the 2009 season.
Greenfield and Treadaway will get to test out their chemistry very quickly with the Rockingham Speedway test session on Monday, March 2nd. Greenfield’s always been fast, Grumpy’s always had the cars associated with him running up front and Treadaway’s short career in the UARA saw immediate success … is there any doubt that this will be a great pairing???
