SOUTH BOSTON, VA. — The holidays are over and 2012 has arrived. There’s a chill in the air, but it won’t be long until the roar of racing engines will be heard again at America’s Hometown Track.
In just over two months, South Boston Speedway will drop the green flag on a brand new action-packed season. The highly anticipated 2012 campaign will begin on Saturday, March 10 with the running of the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 presented by Danville Toyota.
The NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 presented by Danville Toyota will feature the best of the best Late Model Stock Car Division competitors in the region in an event that will have the season-opening appeal of the Daytona 500 for short track competitors and fans.
Formerly, the NASCAR Whelen Late Model 300 presented by Danville Toyota has closed out the season at South Boston Speedway, but the decision was made to move the event to the start of the campaign in 2012 to bring added excitement to the start of the new season for competitors and fans.
The 2012 South Boston Speedway schedule features a total of 17 action-packed events. Season tickets for the upcoming year of racing are currently on sale and priced at only $150.
In addition to NASCAR Whelen All American Series events for the Late Model Stock Car Division, Limited Sportsman Division and Budweiser Pure Stock Division, a host of special events are, once again, planned in 2012.
South Boston Speedway will host the touring PASS Super Late Model Series for three events in 2012. Those events are scheduled on March 24, June 9, and Aug. 18. All three of those events will also feature twin races for the competitors in the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
The annual 200-lap FindItHere.com NASCAR Whelen Late Model Stock Car race and the annual Fireworks Extravaganza will be held on Tuesday, July 3. That event will also feature a 100-lap race for the Limited Sportsman Division and a 50-lap race for the Budweiser Pure Stock Division.
The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will visit the historic four-tenths mile asphalt oval on Saturday, April 14. That event will also feature twin races for the NASCAR Whelen All American Late Model Stock Car Division.
South Boston Speedway officials also announced plans to have a return visit of the popular Monster Truck Show in 2012. A date for that event will be released later.
The dates for NASCAR Whelen All American Series action at South Boston Speedway for the Late Model Stock Car Division, Limited Sportsman Division and Budweiser Pure Stock Division include April 7, May 5, May 12, May 26, June 16, July 14, July 21, Aug. 4, Sept. 1 and Sept. 15.
