Langley Speedway will make every possible attempt to get this weekend’s rescheduled Hampton Heat 200 completed, announcing a rain date option of Sunday if rain forces the track to pull the plug on Saturday.
Last month, the Hampton Heat 200 was postponed from its traditional late-July date because of persistent and heavy rain. This weekend, the forecast looks every bit as grim, but Langley Speedway plans to push forward and get the race in.
An announcement from the track read as follows:
“Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway will be making every attempt possible to race the Hampton Heat on August 18th as weather allows. But in the event weather forces the postponement of the Hampton Heat, the race will be moved to Sunday August 19th with the first race at 4pm. A full revised schedule for the day will be released with that announcement.”
In 2014, the Hampton Heat 200 faced heavy rainfall throughout the evening, but the race was still able to be run after starting in the late-night hours. Last year, rain hit the speedway after qualifying, but the brief shower passed and gave way to clear skies when the green flag fell.
The Hampton Heat 200 has been a staple on the schedule and a staple as a mid-summer highlight since 2007. The only year the race has not been run was 2016 when the track was closed for the season during land lease negotiations.
