In an effort to further improve competition and the fan experience, Caraway Speedway’s Darren and Renee Hackett have announced several adjustments to the remainder of the 2016 schedule for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock cars. Featured among those changes are several major events that will see big purses for the winner and $600 to start.
Beginning with this Saturday night’s action, the NASCAR Late Model Stocks will race for 125 laps, paying $3000 to win and $600 to start. On Saturday, July 9, there will be Twin 75s for the NASCAR Late Model Stocks, each paying $2000 to win and $300 to start.
The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stocks will also have two major events for the remainder of the 2016 season at Caraway Speedway. The Summer Heat 200 will take place on Saturday night, July 23, paying $5000 to win and $600 to start. The 200-lap race will feature a 10 minute break at lap 125 for competitors to take two tires and fuel for the final 75 lap dash for cash. The Daggett & Shuler Attorneys At Law Rusty Harpe Memorial will move from July to Friday night, August 19. This year’s Rusty Harpe Memorial will include Twin 71’s for the NASCAR Late Model Stocks, in honor of Harpe’s car number, paying $2000 to win each twin and $300 to start. The September 3 race will be removed from the schedule due to conflicting events with several other area tracks.
Tommy Lemons, Jr. is a hometown driver at Caraway Speedway, having started racing there in 2004. In recent years, Lemons has traveled to different speedways in the region, where he has also been a winner. Lemons believes the changes at Caraway Speedway are necessary to not only benefit the track, but the racers too.
“I hope the schedule changes help draw more cars since most tracks aren’t running on these dates,” says Lemons. “There are a lot of variables that come up, especially in the twin races. Strategies play out and sometimes you even get people not going as hard in the first race, trying to save tires instead of racing.”
