Saturday night’s season opener at Shenandoah Speedway set a strong mark for the season ahead and Brian Purdham made a statement of his own.

Purdham started on the pole and led every single lap in the 75 lap Late Model race to score the victory over defending track champion Doug Liberman.  Keith Carpenter finished in third while Mike Gonoe and Vincent Campbell rounded out the top-five.

Purdham’s victory was his third consecutive win at Shenandoah Speedway.  He was victorious in the final two races of the 2014 season.

In total, among all the divisions at Shenandoah, 71 cars filled the pits at Shenandoah.  Last season saw one of the most successful seasons ever for the 3/8-mile track nestled in the Shenandoah Valley as the track ascended to relevance with a hard working Russell Schmidt at the helm.

The largest field at Shenandoah on Saturday was the Legends class which saw over 20 cars.  That race was won by Trey Jarrell.

Shenandoah Speedway’s next race will be held this weekend and then, on Friday, April 24th, Shenandoah Speedway will host a marquee event for the first time as the Racing for Wishes 150, a race which is being organized and promoted by an outside group, will be run.  Philip Morris is one of many drivers who have already registered to compete in the $6,000-to-win Racing for Wishes 150.
