Matt McCall is in his sixth race as a crew chief for former Daytona 500 champion Jamie McMurray and he is enjoying it.
While McCall would love to get in a Late Model, something that will likely happen in the Jerry Moody Memorial race at Southern National Motorsports Park on April 26th, he said he loves working at Chip Ganassi Racing. McCall is a former champion in the UARA-STARS series, when he was racing for the late Jerry Moody.
McCall has not forgot about Martinsville though and he would love to be running behind Lee Pulliam on the final lap of the Valley Star Credit Union 300. Pulliam won’t have to worry about McCall exacting his revenge this year. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will be running at Dover International Speedway in Delaware on the day of the Valley Star Credit Union 300.
David Gilliland told RACE22.com that he is extremely proud of his son, Todd. Todd Gilliland scored the victory in the inaugural CARS Late Model Stock Tour race last night with a late race bump-and-run on four-time Southern National Motorsports Park track champion Deac McCaskill.
The elder Gilliland is racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series for Front Row Motorsports.
Former Late Model stars Jeb Burton and Matt DiBenedetto are also competing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, which is currently in progress over on FOX Sports 1. The race also saw the debut of Chase Elliott, the driver who dominated Super Late Model racing before winning the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship in 2014. Elliott was involved in an incident on a restart and spent many laps behind the wall but has since rejoined the race.
