NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FL :: The Speedweeks Super Late Model championship is still wide open following the first two 35-lap events in the World Series of Asphalt at New Smyrna Speedway.
After the first 70 laps of competition, there is a tie on top of the championship standings with Ty Majeski and Paul Shafer Jr. each scoring 90 points. Due to his victory on Saturday night, Majeski currently holds the tiebreaker and the provisional championship lead entering the third race of the campaign on Tuesday night.
Majeski is the defending ARCA Midwest Tour Series champion and the youngest to hold that distinction at just 20-years-old.
Another young gun, Harrison Burton, won the main event on the opening night of Super Late Model competition and was poised to extend his championship lead until an early accident on Saturday dropped him to eighth in the standings and 23 points out of the top spot.
In fact, four of the top-10 drivers from Friday had a problem on Saturday, forecasting a very competitive championship battle for the remainder of Speedweeks. The Super Late Model division has not competed since Saturday night, providing teams to make repairs and adjustments for the stretch run.

Defending Speedweeks champion Steven Wallace has mostly been held in check over the first two events, finishing 10th and 5th in his first two starts — the consistency placing him fifth in the standings and just seven points out of the lead. He is looking to make history by the end of the week, working towards becoming the first driver in World Series history to become a repeat champion in the premiere Super Late Model division.
The straight rails will compete uninterrupted for the remainder of the week, running 35-lap sprints Tuesday-Friday with the 100-lap Bruce Gowland Memorial on Saturday night serving as the championship-deciding main event. The complete point standings can be found below.
