COLUMBUS, IN :: Christopher Bell scored a victory in his first ever Super Late Model start. Now, he’s hoping to score the victory in his first career start at Five Flags Speedway in Saturday night’s Snowflake 100 Pro Late Model race.
Bell, 19, has mostly run USAC Midgets on dirt tracks prior to this season. He has 27 career wins and won the USAC National Midget Championship back in 2013. Racing for the elite Kyle Busch Motorsports Super Late Model team, he scored his first career pavement Late Model victory in his Super Late Model debut in a Pro All Stars Series (PASS) race at Orange County Speedway on October 18th.
Bell said his victory at Orange County surprised him after he struggled when racing in a Perimeter Late Model at Hickory Motor Speedway.
“I actually went and ran a Late Model Stock at Hickory two weeks before that and I ran two races and struggled both times,” Bell aid. “It was kind of surprising when we went to Orange County and were really good. I think the Super Late Model fit my background a little bit more.”
Bell knows that a racer is only as good as the car he’s in and he knows he’ll be in an elite racecar on Saturday night.
“It’d be pretty cool to get another pavement win especially in this prestigious event,” Bell stated. “I’ve been around racing my whole life and the biggest thing I’ve learned is that you’re only good as the race car under you so it’s always nice to show up with Kyle Busch Motorsports and know you’ll have the best equipment possible under you.”
Knowing the caliber of equipment he’ll be racing in, the USAC Midget standout anticipates a strong run and expects to be competitive for the win
“I fully expect to be competitive for the win. The biggest deal is my lack of experience, running 100 laps without burning my stuff up and keeping the car under me for 100 laps. I think we’ll have decent speed. It’s just a matter of outing 100 laps together while minimizing the number of mistakes I make and I think we should be able to do it.”
If Bell wins the Snowflake 100, it could set up a potential sweep for Kyle Busch Motorsports as Erik Jones, the two-time defending Snowball Derby champion, will be racing Busch’s Super Late Model in Sunday’s Snowball Derby.
